Segmentation: Most Important Use of Data Packs

  • Data packs, purchased from wirehouses and other broker/dealers, are an essential component of many asset managers’ distribution strategies, providing valuable information about advisors.
  • Data packs serve various purposes, but some are more crucial. Surveyed firms rated advisor segmentation as the most important use of data packs, averaging 3.83 on a scale of 0 (not important) to 5 (most important).
  • Segmentation provides value by helping asset managers build profiles of advisors, which can be used to shape sales coverage. However, to get full value from segmentation, the data packs should be integrated with other data at the asset managers, which can be a significant undertaking.
