Planned Staffing Increases for National Accounts

  • Based on findings from our latest National Accounts survey, just 11% of firms indicated plans to hire Senior National Accounts Managers, down from an average of 30% from 2017 through 2021.
  • In contrast, 26% plan to hire National Accounts Managers, up from an average of 19% during the same time period.
  • One-third of firms plan to hire Junior National Accounts Managers, up from an average of 22% from 2017 to 2021.
  • Over the past five years, hiring has focused on the recruitment of Senior National Accounts Managers, but this trend has been at the expense of more junior roles. However, the tight labor market and intensifying competition for senior talent may be leading firms to rethink this approach. Refocusing hiring plans on National Accounts Managers and Junior National Accounts Managers provides the dual benefits of helping ensure a sufficient level of service when there is staff turnover and developing new talent to eventually take on senior roles.
