New types of retail investors are becoming interested in alternatives, and Schwab may need to educate investors on the category, said Jeff Strange, relationship manager at FUSE Research Network. “Alternatives are really geared toward complementing portfolios in certain ways and investing in asset classes that … might be unfamiliar to retail clients,” Strange said. “Even if Schwab is providing tools to do that research … there does need to be a kind of foundational education that goes into how they are used.”
