Portfolio products such as Transamerica’s require expertise to manage, says Jeff Strange, a researcher for FUSE Research Network. And a large subadvisor like Goldman can provide that proficiency, along with brand visibility.
“There aren’t that many managers that can do it, so you limit the universe of subadvisors,” he adds. Plus, he says, Goldman doesn’t offer any products that directly compete with these Transamerica portfolios.
